For those that are like myself & are as mad keen about fishing for those "Dream Fish", but lack experience, knowledge or a boat, the only option is finding a Fishing Charter to share this with you & this may not be as easy as it sounds.

Mid last year, I made the decision to find such a fishing charter. Many Charters advertise different forms or techniques of fishing & when you call them, they "promise the world & give an atlas”. I had been on many charters between Tweed Heads & Brisbane & "was still none the wiser". I then decided to try the Sunshine Coast & was lucky enough to stumble on Odyssey Charters at Mooloolaba.

I spoke with the Skipper (Adam Austin) regarding my passion for fishing & my desire to catch fish I had dreamed of. I also discussed my lack of experience & knowledge. While Adam did not guarantee I would become a great angler, he did guarantee me that he & his crew would do their utmost to teach me different fishing techniques etc. While he did not guarantee that I would land those fish I have dreamt of catching, he did guarantee that he would put me onto them.

On my first trip out to the Northern Barwon Banks, we landed a variety of reef species, but my highlight being hooking up & landing a double hook up of Coral Trout! The second trip was just as fruitful on the southern end of the Barwon Banks with the added value of a Mackerel feeding frenzy!.........

Since my first trip late Dec, I have now done 16 trips with Odyssey Charters & have caught many different varieties including some of those fish I have dreamed of catching like Kingies & Cobia etc.

If it were not for shocking weather conditions during this time, I would have been out on many more trips.

Odyssey Charters offers ½ day (5 hr) ¾ Day (7hr) full day (9hr) & Maxi Day (12hr) trips to close reefs, Caloundra wide, Barwon Banks & beyond . The 34 foot, wide body, Cougar Cat (powered by twin 250hp outboards) gets you out 20+ nautical miles to the Barwon Banks & beyond, very quickly & comfortably & for 9hrs for $190, its cheaper than taking your own boat!

They take the time to educate & demonstrate different fishing techniques. They provide the top Shimano gear including Shimano Back Bone/TLD 25 combos for bottom fishing & Shimano Tynos 20, 16, 12 & 8 reels on Camo Rods for float lining. Using Black magic 80, 60 & 40lb leaders & braided line for float lining. Even the lunch provided is “second to NONE” & I am yet to see it finished. Out of all the fishing charters I have been on, these guys are the best by far. Producing great fishing opportunities, great advice, great service, great gear on a great boat.
