▲TopWhite at Night Worth Considering

It was while fishing a series of night competitions for Barramundi recently, some interesting results in relation to lure colour were observed that Halco thinks worth sharing with its friends.

Well known fisherman David Hodge and Halco’s Tim Carter spent the best part of a week night fishing for Barra at beautiful Lake Awoonga in central Queensland.

Several prototype colours were used during the all night and evening events but there was one particular colour that seemed head and shoulders above the rest after the sun had set and darkness fell, that being white or variations on a predominately white lure.

Barramundi fishing at night time is a relatively new concept amongst fishermen that has come with the boom in impoundment fishing up and down the Queensland coast. One look at the eyes of these fantastic sportfish should point to their nocturnal feeding habits and the ability to catch them at night. Several very large fish fell to the white lures during the pre fish as well as during the competition.

It has been said before by seasoned anglers, that when using poppers or lead head jigs “you can use any colour you like as long as its white”. It is certainly worth considering when selecting lure colours at night.

Halco have several colours themed around a predominantly white lure. The H53 White Red Head is a particularly popular lure amongst saltwater anglers with its white body and red head while the H68 Flamin’ Hot is a pearl white lure with orange stripes and head. Both the red and orange colours when put under ultra violet light turn black and should give contrast against the white background of the lure at night while reflecting any available moon or starlight. This makes the lure a great visual target for any predatory fish in the area.

Next time you find yourself fishing hard body lures at night, you should give these colours some serious consideration when making that next cast out into the darkness.

▲TopCreek Capers in the Kimberley

What do members of the tackle industry do in their spare time? They go fishing, of course. Recently Rob Vaughan of Kimberley Fishing hosted well known industry members Lou Rummer, Paul Willis, and Michael Jacob at his bush camp at the Admiralty Gulf in the remotest reaches of the Kimberley region.

The fishing during the seven day adventure was nothing short of sensational with a big Barramundi over the magic metre mark falling victim to a Scorpion 90 on one of the first casts of the trip. The Barra, Threadfin Salmon and Queenfish really turned it on over the next week for the lucky anglers who mainly used the bigger Scorpion 125's and 150's along with the wooden Tilsan Barra and Big Barra.

Lou Rummer described the fishing as some of the finest he has seen come from anywhere in the Kimberley.

▲TopHalco Foils Design Breaches

Following a tip off from a member of the tackle industry, lures manufactured in China but destined for the Australian market which breached Halco's registered designs were detected prior to their entry into the country.

Although the importer in question claimed to be unaware that the lures he intended to import broke existing patent and design legislation, Halco made it very clear that it intended to take legal action against the importer should they bring the illegal and highly inferior product into the country. Fortunately for the importer, he was able to cancel the order for the knock off's prior to their delivery avoiding a very costly mistake. The infringement of registered designs and patents remain a constant problem for innovative tackle manufacturers such as Halco, however wise members of the industry take a very proactive stance against these matters before things get out of hand.

▲TopNew Paint Facility At Halco

With steadily increasing demand for Halco products both in Australia and overseas, Ben Patrick, owner and managing director of Halco has recently invested heavily on the future of the business with the building of an additional painting facility at his Fremantle factory.

Housing an additional six painting booths, Ben hopes the state of the art facility will help ease some of the pressure on the lure supply chain.

"The benefits of this investment may not be immediately obvious to our customers, but in time the flow through will mean a constant and even more reliable supply of lures that flows on all the way to the consumer" Ben said.
