G'day Red Pom

They are some thumper carp and the redfin isn't bad either. Not sure if you know or not but we get both species over here in Oz but they are considered noxious pests. Still good fun to catch though and redfin in my opinion are the best freshwater eating species that I have tasted. Is the stugeon pictured the same one that caviar comes from? how do they rate as a fighting fish and on the table?

Hi Jiggler,

Yeah I know about the carp being pests over there and the Redfin, I don't eat them myself as all you get is massive shoals of small ones if you eat the big ones. A problem being experienced on some of your dam's. The sturgeon is related to the ones that caviar comes from but its not the same species. They are also none native to the UK and can only be stocked into land locked waters. They go pretty well as a fighting fish, but I couldn't comment on their eating qualities. If they taste anything like they look I recken it would be pretty awful mate.
