Well you get some pretty large Barra in the fresh water creeks that go pretty hard and they are pretty striking to look at other wise some of the large carp and also play pretty dirty but are pretty butt ugly. The same would go for the big black tar catfish which only a mother could love Andrew

Not trying to be rude rick but have you ever caught a jack that was up to 98cm I know they can be dirty fighters but wouldn't be as big as some of the large female barra have read somwhere that the Sarotoga also go pretty large up in QLD have yet to catch one of those Cheers Andrew

Pom said Pound for Pound. I have caught more then twice as big as the Jack in this photo and the Jack could have pulled the barra backwards. Barra for there size only have a reasonably little fight in them. Even Kingfish fight harder in my opinion. And yes from all accounts Saratoga fight harder then Barra. I haven't caught one yet so cant comment.

It's interesting when you break it down, a big fish because of its sheer bulk can seem to fight hard but in reality you are fighting the weight as well. For the record, Carp go very well but pound for pound I reckon the Wels catfish takes some beating. If the tackle is well matched to the fish. |

I think Murray Cod go as hard as anything - they dont have the stamina of most fish, but in terms of sheer brute force, i dont think anything can match it! |

I havent caught them personally, so cant compare them directly to Mangrove Jacks. But hopefully I will remedy this on my July fish with |

Nathan ( Have you caught a Trout Cod? I hear they go harder again (then Murray Cod). While I am aware they are protected and therefore cant fish for them specifically if you are fishing the Murrumbidgee River, Trout Cod are apparently a reasonably common Bi-Catch. There is also a likelyhood that Trout Cod are going to be dropped from the "Threatened list" which would make it possible to target them again. As they are currently flourishing. Apparently they have considerably more stamina then Cod, and pound for pound fight much harder. |

I have heard that Rick, but Trout Cod are rarer than Rocking Horse Poo up here mate. Would love to tangle with one one day, but as they dont grow to the size of Murray Cod i still doubt they would have the sheer brute force that big Murray Cod have. Cheers! Nathan |

Have alo heard that they get some fairley large snake head at some of the private ponds up in the Northern Territory and they definately go hard so the brother in law tells me he thought they fight better than Mulloway Andrew
