Hi all, Went fishing in the Macquarrie river at Dubbo on the weekend and got 7 Juvenille Trout Cod and no Murray Cod. They were all about 40-45cm. I've caught about 30 so far this year up to 60cm. The numbers are encouraging. I think they may be a tad more aggressive than the Murray Cod. I've caught them all on lures less than 5ks from town. I hope we get a flood soon to spread em out a bit. Are there any other area's where Trout Cod are making a comeback? Dicko.. |

Hi Dicko and welcome to this great site I fish the murray a lot between cobram and echuca and have found that trout cod numbers have taken a rise significantly and the size of these wonderfull fish is growing at a rapid rate. for example 2 or 3 years ago i was catching a few trout cod average 10 or 20 a season and the size was average about 25 to 30 cm and now when i got to the same spots i am catching 30 to 40 a season but the size has increased to an average of 45 to 50 cm I dont think that the numbers and size of the Trout cod in this area is enough to make them taken of the protected list but if the trend keeps going not so long in the future i think it posibly would sustain a uplifting of the ban hopefully if they do the size and bag limits will be similar to murray cod that way we can all enjoy the thrill of catching some nice fish Regards Lewie
