We went out for Hairtail a week or two back and even though it was bloody cold and we didn't catch anything I had a ball...

Tell you what the best black drummer and groper fishing on the central coast is definately when the family jewels don't want a bar of fishing! these are two of my favourite fish as they pull hard and taste pretty good too.

We have just returned from Yanco (near Wagga Wagga) fishing for Murray Cod with Jamin-Forbes.

We are pretty busy but we will do our best to get out with you again soon.

damn hairies have gone off again, went last night and got nothing but tailor and squid, it must be the water temp or the other 30 boats there (yes 30) last week it was 12 degees and last night it was 15. i will keep you posted. didn't mean to change your forum topic so my favourite winter species is hairtail this year but usually it is luderic but they have been a bit quiet this year so far.

When I used to live in Sydney my mate and I used to hit the Hawkesbury. We'd get our selves to the mouth of Broken Bay by sun up and troll untill the birds showed us where the fish were. After a couple of hours of nonstop Salmon and Bonito on our bream gear. we'd head in to the road bridge to catch the change of tide there. This netted Jewies and big bream. Then we'd motor on up to The Vines to catch the tide chance there too. We always got big bream there.

Depending on the tides this was a usual day for us. boating about 80 or so fish (throwing them all back cause neither of us eat fish) and going home feeling like Kings!

I'm in the country now hitting up Cod and Yellowbelly but I'm going back down the Hawkesburry for the Anzac day long weekend to do it all again. (I am going to target some kings this time.)

My favorite winter species would have to be the winter gummys here in beautifull Westernport bay and flicking plastics around the Mallacoota estuaries for the huge flatties and Mulloway, I would love a chance to get out amongst the Hairtail on the Hawksbury river and then have a go at the monster Cod in the Murry river system. But then again I will fish anywhere at anytime and be extreemly happy catching any species.

In winter on the central coast here we get a steady run of salmon on our beaches here and I try as much as possible to get out to the beach and just walk along with a spin rod loaded with a metal slice type lure and more often than not a school of either salmon or tailor will bust up the surface somewhere. Sometimes you are buggered from running by the time you get there but it is worth the effort.

down south in victoria winter is when all the big salmon come through the bays and along the beaches. so i like to go out in my boat with a 12weight fly rod and get dragged around out there last time i was bout to land a salmon a 4ft bronzie came up and i hooked him in the pectoral fin i landed him and let him go. we also get monster gummies in westernport and port phillip but when we fish for them it is strictly catch and release due to the breeding fish. so many to choose from. tight lines
