Biography:
I have 18 years fly-fishing experience, 13 in New Zealand since moving here in 1993. I’ve also fished extensively throughout the Rocky Mountains, the Pacific Northwest, New Mexico, Appalachia, and Quebec. So my approach is eclectic. I prefer to sight fish, particularly with a dry. But I’m not a purist by any means. I’m also a keen nymph fisherman because I know it works.
Then there’s the fun of reading water, which I’d never consider “fishing blind” because you’re fishing the habitat. Deep down inside me is the same boy who cut his teeth fishing stink- and sourdough bait for catfish and drifting minnows for black bass. I just switched to the fly rod because it was more fun.
Besides guiding, I can also offer fly-tying instruction for New Zealand hatches.
I have a good knowledge of Kiwi angling literature. New Zealand has a rich angling heritage that deserves to be shared by people who love it as passionately as I do.
I guide one client at a time. I will tailor your trip to your personal style and any special needs for origin, accommodation and tuition.
