Biography:

Rob Laspina is one of North Queenslands leading lure and flyfishing guides. He has over 20 years lure and 15 year’s saltwater flyfishing experience and a lifetime of fishing the north’s rivers and estuaries for a wide range of tropical species. Born and bred in the Burdekin River district and now based out of Townsville, Rob alternates between Hinchinbrook Channel and Seisia, Cape York where he has enjoyed guiding clients to some memorable and spectactular captures over the last 8 years.
Being an authority on all things associated with tropical lure fishing from all forms of estuary to inshore pelagics, he has successfully competed in the local Hinchinbrook Catch and Release Tournament finishing 3 out of 4 times in the top 3 teams from competitors across the state. Twice winning the event in 1999 and 2005 as overall team and taking out champion angler overall in 2005, runner up champion angler in 1999 and champion barra angler as well in 1999.
Equally at home flyfishing in the estuaries and on the flats sight-fishing for barra, permit and other shallow water speedsters he has developed flies and techniques specifically for all northern species. Rob has been at the forefront in the development of the permit and flats fishery in the Hinchinbrook region and has guided clients onto some of the largest captures of this elusive species in the country.
