Description
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Talbragar River is a river in New South Wales, Australia. It starts on the western side of the Liverpool Range near Cassilis and flows west to join the Macquarie River near Dubbo. The Talbragar does not start in a high rainfall area and is not much of a river at all really. It was first encountered by Europeans in the late 1820s when it was called the Putterbatta River. Tributaries of the Talbragar include the Coolaburragundy River, Cockabutta Creek, Four Mile Creek, Mitchell's Creek. The first bridge over the Talbragar was built in the 1850s, near Dunedoo, by Thomas New. The river is to be noted for its influence on flood, particularly for its capacity for rapid rise and fall, due to the wide catchment, and the effect of its flood water on Dubbo.
Dunedoo is on the south bank of the Talbragar about halfway along its length.
